For context, Sonata has access to a personal pocket dimension, the Empty Sekai. This realm is born from music and her emotions- in this case, her lack thereof and desire to reclaim them. The vocaloids themselves are manifestations of different emotions that she's either repressed or had to shed completely to survive. They are still also separate people, however- even if they are devoted to her by nature. Are they mechanical?  WHO KNOWS, they sure sound it but. Magic is weird. The Sekai is never explained.
